Seems pretty fast if I compare to civ5, but I've not tested a full game yet so I don't know how it performs in the late game. Hopefully it will be one of the things they optimize in one of the first patches. At least most of the AI works during processing, so checking cities and stuff can be done during the waiting period. RyikaOct 21, I was actually impressed with how fast it was. But I play on a machine built to do VFX so it's got a fair amount of punch anyway. Just installing on my Surface Pro which I suspect will be more revealing in terms of fair comparison. It appears that currently the ai is somewhat multithreaded.Home Discussions Workshop Market Broadcasts. Change language. Install Steam. Store Page. Global Achievements. I've recently noticed as the game progresses, and more and more plots are modified by builders, selecting and operating builders has substantial lag of 1 - 3 seconds for any operation. Whether selecting a builder, directing a builder, or when a builder embarks from land to water or vice versa. Since it's literally impossible to troubleshoot mods during a game thanks to being unable to disable mods mid play through, I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue.
Is it happening for anyone playing without mods? Is anyone with mods having a similar issue? No other units are experiencing this issue. Not related to graphics settings or performance. Issue happens whether I'm playing on highest performance settings or lowest. Lag only affects builders. Any help is appreciated. I'll probably try a play through without mods sometime Showing 1 - 15 of 40 comments.

To make matters worse, since modders do not coordinate efforts, you can be in a situation where two or more mods work fine alone, but crap out your system combined. This is what you sign up for, unfortunately, with mods. There is no way to prevent it.Is your Civilization VI running too slowly? Are you exploring interesting ways to boost your game speed? This is probably the most requested tweak that many people have asked for. How on Earth do you get rid of the Introduction Video?
From now on, once you open Civ VI, the game will only show you the logos and skip straight to the loading screen. How great is that!
It is highly recommended that you Enable Quick Movement — this disables any animation when it comes to movement of units, thus saving you a lot of time especially when it comes to ending your turn and waiting for other players to move their units. It is recommended that you Enable Quick Combat — this disables any animation when it comes to units attacking or defending against other units. While this saves you time, a drawback is that all combats will happen almost instantly, one after another, and you might not be able to witness in detail which of your units have been attacked when you end your turn.
However, we still advise you to turn on Quick Combat since Civ VI does not automatically zoom to your units defending against other enemy units anymore, unlike Civ V.
Are you already familiar to Civilization VI or to the Civilization series? Saving your game takes time, especially on larger maps with more players.
Civilization 6 tweaks and fixes
By increasing the number of turns between your Autosaves, you waste less time waiting for the game to save. A reasonable number of turns would be 2 to 4 turns. Nonetheless, it is a good habit to always manually save your game when you are making important decisions such as declaring war or building a wonder that you are not confident of completing before another player does!
The less Autosaves you keep, the less memory you are storing into your computer. Then again, an Autosave file should not take up disk storage so significantly that it will affect your gameplay, so you can leave this to its default setting.
Also, you can disable the Animated Time of Day option. This is purely cosmetic and allows you to see your game in day-night cycle complete with sunrises and sunsets. If you can select a lower resolution smaller numbers in generalyou can do so to reduce the resources that the game needs to display elements such as the map and units. Not everyone has access to different resolutions; it depends on your monitor display. Lowering the values increases performance impact and decreases memory impact respectively.
To maximize game running speed, you should keep both to the minimum. You can toggle the Advanced Options as seen below and turn off any unncessary graphical features that can hinder performance, such as shadows and particle effects. These consume resources and disabling them can give you that extra boost to fasten your gameplay!
Remember, you can always view more instructions for every options by hovering over the drop down menus and viewing the help text. This basically strips the game of its fanciful topography and replaces units, cities and buildings with simple icons.
If you Enable Start in Strategic View, for each game that you create or load, the Strategic View will automatically be enabled and you will see an interface like the one below.Their colors are red and sky blue, and they are led by Kupe.
Their unique unit is the Toa which replaces the Swordsmanand their unique building is the Marae which replaces the Amphitheater.
In every reiteration of Civilizations, there is always one civilization whose gameplay is so unique that it deserves a category of its own. Initially, your Settler and Warrior will start their journey in the middle of the Ocean with no land tiles in sight. From here, you have two main choices, either separate the two units so you can find land earlier, or keep them together to escort one another. When contemplating these two options, the latter seems to have its advantages outweigh the disadvantages, as you need your Warrior to protect your Settler against Barbariansotherwise it would quickly be a gameover.
Furthermore, if your Warrior is the first unit to see land, it does not make any difference, since it is the Settler's job to create the first city anyway, so remember: keep them together. Even when at sea, you already start generating 2 Culture and 2 Science per turn, meaning you will have a slight disadvantage in Science and an advantage in Culture compared to a normal civilization who settles their first city right away.
The main effect of this is that you will unlock Code of Laws faster than most other civilizations except for Trajan's Romeallowing earlier access to the starting policy cards. Also, it is advised to not choose which starting technology to research until you find the land you want to settle your Capital, as the Science will accumulate until you choose instead of being wasted. By doing this, you can customize your choice to fit the surrounding of your Capital. The ideal place for your Capital should have at least two ocean resources with plenty of passable terrain features WoodsRainforestsMarshesReefspassable Natural WondersVolcanic SoilGeothermal FissuresFloodplainsOases.
Once you settle the first city, you will receive a free Builderfree Population, and the Palace with extra Housing and Amenity to make up for the lost time on the oceans. The starting Builder should start building Fishing Boats on the ocean resources, which will trigger a Culture Bomb from the Mana ability.
The reason you should have at least two available resources is to trigger the Eureka for Celestial Navigationthe technology that unlocks Harbora crucial piece of infrastructure.
The fact that you start with 2 Population means you can immediately start working on a new Settler, but this is not advised. It is better to train another scouting unit, since you can cross deep water from the beginning This extra unit should be a Warrior on water-dominated maps or a Scout on maps with more land.
This ability also has one implication: everyone on the map including you will have less space for expansion. This is how map generation of the game works: when the game is set up, the map will be divided into areas equal to the number of civilizations in the game.
It also means empires away from you will have relatively more breathing room, including resource access and expansion space. There are two ways you can address this issue, depending on the situations:. Exploit the fact that you can wrest complete control of the seas in the first few eras and decide for yourself which option is best for your empire.
This really is a compound ability, since it comprises of so many small bonuses, but all of them serve almost the same two purposes: to enhance exploration and colonization ability and to make up for lost time due to Kupe's leader ability.
This section will be split appropriately into each facet of Mana. Obviously, the ability to embark is granted to all units from the start is one crucial and the most outstanding effect, but let's talk about some less inherent ramifications of this. First, you are able to build Fishing Boats from the start if you manage to find Turtles on Reef, these tiles are like gold mines in terms of early yields, considering you receive ProductionGold1 precious Science and Food.
You also can build Galleys to defend yourself against aggressive naval civilizations like Phoenicia or Norway, but don't bother with this if they are not in the game.Read our Civ 6 guide for getting started in Firaxis' new 4X game, and check out our list of the best Civilization 6 mods.
We're still waiting on word from Firaxis about when we can expect mod toolsbut all the loose Lua and XML files hanging out in Civilization 6's directories already give us the opportunity to do some good tweaking. Mostly thanks to the eagle eyes of the Civit subreddithere are a few ways to customize Civ 6 to your liking and get it running better.
Also read our Civilization 6 review if you haven't already—we like it a lot.
As always, update your video drivers if you haven't recently. But if you've done all the standard troubleshooting and just getting to the Civ 6 main menu is still a long process, or it hangs on the way there, Windows Defender may be causing your grief. It definitely was for me: before I added an exception, loading the menu took ages and it would hang if I alt-tabbed. Select 'Add an Exclusion' and choose to exclude a folder. And that's it. If Windows Defender was your problem, the main menu should now load much faster and it ought to be a little more forgiving about alt-tabbing.
If that doesn't work, Reddit user LoadTimes has some other suggestions. It's easy to disable the main intro video—it's in the options menu, under 'Application'—but also getting rid of the logo splash screens is slightly trickier. The trick comes from Reddit account Civ6LogoSkipwhich is a very specific account to have, but a very useful one to us.
Unfortunately, just deleting logos. Instead, we have to replace it with a blank video. Rename logos. Reddit user Xacius has the details on this tweak. First, unbind W and A in the settings so you don't accidentally attack when you mean to move the camera.
Search for ' DefaultKeyDownHandler ' to find the function we want to edit. A then. Now find the ' DefaultKeyUpHandler ' function and make the same change, save the file and try it out. For more on how to muck with the controls, check out Xacius's comprehensive post.
This is another tweak from Xacius. Open WorldInput. The line should look like this:. Open the file with a text editor to start mucking with it, but save a backup first. I haphazardly set all the fonts to size 24 or higher and the result wasn't exactly attractive, as expected. Unit cycling—which automatically swaps focus to the next available unit—drives me pretty nuts in wartime, so I was happy to see Reddit user Miramosa's tweak.
The option to turn off unit cycling did make it into the options file, but apparently not into the actual menu.Log in or Sign up. CivFanatics Forums. How do you play maps made with Worldbuilder? Tags: civ 6 worldbuilder. So I created a map in the Worldbuilder. But how do I play it? Is their something that I have to set either in the Worldbuilder or in an xml file or something?
ThorburneMar 31, I'm about to try this. I suspect that you need to use the map you made and create a Scenario with it. ThornMar 31, See the attached mod. Delete my original map from the mod. Change the filename needed within the mod's TrajanHugeMap. Civ6Map to match to the filename of the map you created and added to the mod. This TrajanHugeMap.
Save all your changes you made in the TrajanHugeMap. Click on the little drop-down arrow and you should see a second choice for TrajanHugeMap.
Select this. The designation for Map directly under the slider for number of city-state to be used should now be showing Trajan Huge Map. This is proper because no changes were made in the mod to tell it to use a different description than the one I had made for my map. But the game will still be using your map and not my original one. Just change this in the drop-down for Map Size before you start the game.
But if you specify a map-size that wants to place more players than your map has pre-determined starting positions for, the game will use its normal behavior for determining start positions for these extra players.
I don't alter anything when using a custom map for settings of Resources or Start Position. Do not go back to the usual Create Game Menu.
